Topic Development and Modifications NC ref / SoW ref:   Key Stage 4
Learning Objective(s) (by the end of this lessons pupils should understand / know / be able to…)
be aware of the need for modelling and seeing things in three dimensions when designing
know how to use card to make a 3D model of their design ideas
understand how the model can be used to provde formative evaluation of designs
Compare the difference between a "test" model and a finished "promotional model"
Understand the relevance of mechanisms and motion in the relation to the project.
Special Needs / differentiation
All must… all should complete a test model and make at least one (1) major modification applied to a copy of the orthographic drawing.  Complete mechanisms worksheet.
Most should most should complete a test model and make up to three (3) detail modifications applied to a copy of the orthographic drawing. Complete mechanisms worksheet
Some should some should in addition act as peer mentors to assist the team.

Main Lesson Activities
Homework check. Review last week / session topic
complete orthographic drawing and photocopy same.  Produce a development in light card to test out the form.  Check for errors and need for modifications
Using a RED pen, correct a copy of the original orthographic drawing accordingly.
Single period: cover issues relating to mechanisms - LOCI and the drawing of movement in relation to wind-mills, linier to circular, pivots, levers and gearing ratios.
Students to tie tag and hand in all course-work for formal assessment.
Plenary Recap learned techniques & concepts. Discuss what will be necessary for the making of a promotional model.
